Gavin Johns

Gavin started his career as a Trainee Cameraman for Channel 7 Perth in 1987.

In 1994, Gavin traveled to South Africa where he worked for the Reuters News Agency covering the historic elections which would see Nelson Mandela become President. On the back of that experience, Gavin then spent a year in war-torn Cambodia in 1995 based in Pnom Penh. In 1997, Gavin moved to London where he spent some years working in news-gathering, on Lifestyle and Entertainment programs, continuing his work within News and Current affairs, and in what was to become his big love, covering major worldwide sporting events for TWI.

Continuing his association with TWI, Gavin’s most rewarding work has taken him to many corners of the globe, covering events such as the Mild Seven Outdoor Quest in the jungles of Borneo, the 2002 World Cup Soccer in Korea, the 2006 World Cup in Germany, and most recently, the Euro 2008 Soccer championships held in Switzerland. In 2007 Gavin was also responsible for aerial camera and photography on the Australian Safari 4WD race, Australia’s version of the Paris to Dakar rally.

Gavin is just at home in the water as he is on land, and has had experience shooting underwater footage of surfing , kite surfing and various other water sports.
